In a former blog, we wrote about whether smoking hemp gets you high. And the answer used to just be no — because we were only talking about CBD-rich hemp.

But now, with new strains on the market, the answer has changed! No longer is CBD the cannabinoid to watch out for in hemp strains. Nowadays, there is a medley of strains available. Even strains that get you high for the average stoner are on the market.

Does smoking hemp get you high? The answer is, it can — but it also might not. It depends on the strain you bring to the table. Let’s get into that today. What kind of hemp strain do you need to get high? What other benefits can you experience with hemp? Time to dive into it all in our revamped updated blog on the topic.

Does Smoking Hemp Get You High? Is it Safe?

And what’s the difference between hemp and pot, anyway? These are all questions we get asked often. Understandably, those who aren’t as familiar with hemp flower or its compounds may not be sure about its finer details.

We want to help clear the air on everything you need to know about smoking hemp. Certain hemp flower strains have massive concentrations of CBD, providing tremendous advantages. Others are abundant in terpenes or delta-8 THC, providing a unique entourage effect. Let’s dive into tips to keep in mind before smoking hemp flower.

What is Hemp Flower?

First, what is hemp flower? For starters, the definition has changed over the years. The 2018 Farm Bill firmly defined hemp flower. The definition now qualifies hemp as any cannabis strain that contains 0.3% delta-9 THC or less.

Hemp used to be the unprocessed bud from the cannabis plant for the purpose of fiber. Now, though, it can be harvested, dried, and cured like marijuana. From there, users can enjoy all the cannabinoids and hemp compounds the plant offers.

In most cases, unless it’s a delta-8 hemp flower, users won’t get high. They can simply enjoy the other benefits that come from CBD and hemp. Users report relief from stress, that it’s easier to relax or even sleep more manageable, and much more.

What is CBD?

We’ve touched on CBD all throughout our platform, but just as a recap, cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the 400+ compounds found in the cannabis plant. One of 60+ cannabinoids, it’s the only cannabinoid abundant in some cannabis plants, just like THC.

More specifically, THC is typically abundant in marijuana, while CBD is typically found abundant in hemp. While THC may be the best-known cannabinoid presently, CBD is slowly making its rise to fame due to recent history.

thc which causes hemp to get you highWhat is THC?

Good old THC. What is it, when you get down to the bottom of everything? Well, the THC you likely know’s full name is delta-9 THC. That THC, abundant in marijuana rather than hemp, is psychoactive.

It’s also not the only form of THC in the world. There’s also delta-8 THC, and more recently, THC-O. Through careful breeding and worthwhile genetics, we’re able to offer delta-8 flower and THC-O flower.

These types of THC are present within certain hemp flower strains. Because they’re not delta-9 THC, they still qualify as hemp.

That means we can provide hemp flower that gets you high. Yep, it’s about as simple as that.

Is Hemp Flower Legal?

Yes, hemp flower is legal thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill. With it, any cannabis strain that contains 0.3% delta-9 THC or less falls into the category of hemp.

The plant was also legalized federally, allowing states to decide if they wanted to farm it as a crop.

Hemp flower is legal across the nation, which is why we’re able to ship our products virtually nationwide.

Does Smoking Hemp Get You High?

In short — yes, smoking hemp flower can get you high. However, consuming just CBD products is unlikely to cause intoxication. CBD is completely non-intoxicating. Legal THC and delta-8 THC, on the other hand, are psychoactive. They provide a high for most users.

So, the answer is that it depends on the hemp flower strain in question.

How Do You Know What Each Strain Contains?

If you want to be sure you know what you’re getting, get it from a source you can trust. The best way to check what each strain contains is to read the lab report. For example, every product on our website is batch-tested through a third-party lab. We get unbiased readings on what every single strain and product on our website contains.

Smoking CBD Bud

People smoke hemp in the form of pre-rolled joints or ground up as flower. Smoking hemp can be very relaxing, but not every strain will make you feel “high.”

On the contrary, CBD-rich strains with low THC are unlikely to make you high. They are capable of making you feel other effects, though.

Part of the misconception that CBD causes a high may come from so many people calling it “non-psychoactive.” By definition, psychoactive means that it affects the mind — which CBD certainly seems to do. However, CBD doesn’t appear to affect the mind in the same way that THC does. As a result, it’s labeled as non-psychoactive.

Furthermore, many CBD products, especially CBD-rich hemp flower, don’t merely just contain CBD. Rather, minor cannabinoids, terpenes, and other hemp compounds also come into play. What people can mistake for a high is the entourage effect that cannabinoids in synergy can stimulate.

The entourage effect of cannabinoids just helps each cannabinoid amplify its overall results. Depending on the hemp strain, this may stimulate a more intense level of relaxation, along with other positive properties.

Take a CBD-rich hemp flower strain that’s chock full of minor cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other hemp compounds. In the right amount, it could provide an effective entourage effect that causes mild drowsiness with a wave of relaxation and calm.

This combination can often be mistaken for a high, so it’s not far outside the realm of possibility that this is what people mean when they mistakenly think CBD or hemp flower causes a high.

There’s no intoxication involved when using CBD hemp flower or any other CBD product – and that’s the biggest difference between CBD and THC. While CBD flower may be psychoactive, as it does affect the mind, it won’t cause intoxication, so CBD doesn’t cause a high.

What to Expect When You Smoke CBD Hemp Flower

So, if CBD doesn’t cause a high — what is it used for?

We know we have the respiratory system, cardiovascular system, and all other bodily systems. The endocannabinoid system, or ECS, is another bodily system. The ECS runs all throughout our body, made up of cannabinoid receptors, which are split into CB1 and CB2 receptors. We produce our own endocannabinoids to interact with these receptors.

These endocannabinoids we naturally produce happen to look almost molecularly identical to the phytocannabinoids found in cannabis plants. This is why THC causes a high and why other phytocannabinoids stimulate the results that they do.In a 2017 comprehensive review of clinical data and relevant animal studies on CBD, researchers found that CBD doesn’t impact or reduce psychomotor and psychological function.

Instead, CBD appears to have unique properties of its own. It stimulates calming effects and helps to relax, reduce stress and anxiety symptoms, and more. In August 2019, a Gallup poll found 1 in every 7 adults use CBD, with the numbers growing more every day. Many have started incorporating different CBD products into their daily life.

CBD Hemp Strains

What CBD hemp strains are people smoking? We wanted to provide you with a list of the best and brightest. Let’s look at our favorite CBD-rich hemp strains available.

Sour Suver Hazedoes smoking hemp get you high

First up on our list is Sour Suver Haze, a gassy variety that’s gassier than the original Suver Haze. Since it’s a CBD strain, you’re not going to experience a high, but users report having a light, downright gratifying experience.

For those especially stressful days, the euphoric, uplifting effects can certainly do wonders. Relax your muscles, unclench your jaw, and un-tense your body as you unwind into a delightful sativa strain. And since Sour Suver Haze is a sativa, it can work well even as a daytime strain to fit your needs.

Sour Special Sauce

Just like its Sour Suver Haze cousin, Sour Special Sauce is a gassy variety with a lot to love. The difference is in the earth undertone with Sour Special Sauce. With sweet and sour notes like berries, it’s unique to the original Special Sauce version.

While the flavor and aroma is unique, the effects are similar to the original. Prepare for relaxing vibes and a chilled out day. You may experience a burst of focus, energy, or likely a flare of creativity. This particular strain maximizes the caryophyllene and limonene terpenes to provide a powerful entourage effect.

Just as our first mention is a good daytime strain, Sour Special Sauce is an ideal nighttime or evening strain. Alternatively, you can use it to relax during any part of the day.

Super Sour Space Candy

If you’re noticing a trend by now, it’s that we love sour strains. And what’s not to love? They’re chockful of cannabinoids, terpenes, and other delicious hemp compounds. Together, they provide an entourage effect that’s hard to beat.

Our Super Sour Space Candy strain comes in pre-rolls, too, which makes it an easy go-to. Get a unique and diverse flavor profile, with notes of sour strawberry, lemon, and even some tropical fruit. The aroma, though, is more like a combination of pine needles, diesel, and apples. You’ll have to smell it for yourself! As an ideal daytime strain, we can’t get enough of Super Sour Space Candy.

Sour Pineapple CBD

Sour Pineapple CBD just hits differently. With a legendary parent strain like Sour Tsunami, who can blame it? Get ready for a powerful combination of CBD, myrcene, terpinolene, and caryophyllene. The three latter names are powerhouse terpenes that provide a stellar entourage effect you’ll surely want to recreate.

CBD Moon Rocks

Finally, we make it to our CBD moon rocks. If you’re wondering what moon rocks are supposed to be, we can fill you in. CBD moon rocks are buds of CBD-rich cannabis, dipped in hash oil, and rolled in kief. They’re absolutely packed and loaded down with kief, in fact.

Just like any other type of flower, moon rocks can be ground up and smoked in a bong, pipe, other bowl, or joint/blunt. Whatever your heart desires, you can smoke it.

Hemp Strains that Can Cause a High

However, CBD moon rocks are still unlikely to get you high due to their low THC content. Fortunately, we have just the stuff for that, too. Let’s get into the hemp strains that can cause an actual high.

Delta 8 trifecta-moonrocksDelta 8 Trifecta Moon Rocks

Coming in hot with our favorite delta 8 flower strains is our delta 8 Trifecta Moon Rocks. These babies are potent, smokeable, dense buds of caked-on kief. The coating of kief on top is phenomenal, and the entire bud is infused with a delta-8 THC isolate.

Results are euphoric, chill, and gently buzzed. Users usually feel the delta-8 high more in the head than in the body. For this strain, in particular, it’s a powerful sativa that’s all cerebral.

White CBG

Something you don’t see very often is CBG flower, which we’re proud to show off. White CBG is a decisive hemp strain that provides some psychoactive effects.

In addition, users report feeling a sense of calm and clarity without being put to sleep. In fact, some users report experiencing focus on the high. Overall, it’s another solid daytime strain to try.

You’ll find White CBG in our dropdown menu under delta 8 flower.

Sour Special Sauce

This time, experience a high with Sour Special Sauce’s distinctive cannabinoids and terpenes.

The sharp smell of tart berries upfront is followed by a sweet diesel aroma, AKA the smell that sour strains are known for. A true indica strain, we recommend this guy for evenings or nighttime.

Forbidden V THC-O Flower

Lastly, we couldn’t help but mention Forbidden V, our very own THC-O flower. A relatively new cannabinoid to hit the market, our strain is lab tested for safety and purity.

The best part? THC-O is supposed to be three times stronger than regular THC. So the THC you smoke in marijuana is a third as strong as this version of hemp flower. We can’t recommend it enough. Get Forbidden V while it’s still in stock!

Does Smoking Hemp Get You High: Final Thoughts
